Stone Hunter has been building in the North Fork Valley of Paonia since 2018
Born west of Loveland, Colorado, Stone grew up helping his father do stone masonry, attending River Song Waldorf school, and learning about permaculture design. He became interesting in natural building during his Biodynamic Farming Apprenticeship at Sustainable Settings, in Carbondale Colorado, in 2015. Stone moved to Paonia in 2018 to help build a load bearing straw bale home, designed with spiritual architecture principles, and then he kept building homes in the valley with Skyhawk Construction and later Northfork Carpentry. In 2024 he bought and renovated his own home in Paonia using therapeutic principles. In 2025 he built a custom, 1500sq ft, 3 bedroom 2 bathroom straw bale home for his mother in Paonia at 108 Clark Ave. This home features adobe floors, tongue and groove cielings, finish lime plasters, granite countertops, standing seam metal roofs, a Hearthstone wood stove, finish lime plasters and more…
As the directing force behind Trillium Construction, Stone is well connected with some of the best electricians, plumbers, plasterers, excavators, drywall finishers and other trades in the valley. With aspirations to grow his small business into a carpentry collective, he loves working with real materials, and with others who have drive and creativity.
